About This Business

The Transportation Action Partnership, operating as the North Bethesda Transportation Center (NBTC), is a key player in managing and enhancing the transportation infrastructure of North Bethesda, Maryland. Located in an area bustling with major employers such as the National Institutes of Health and Lockheed Martin Corporation, and featuring prominent retail centers like Pike & Rose and Westfield Montgomery Mall, North Bethesda is a hub of economic activity. With over 70,000 employees and more than 1,000 employers, the region presents unique transportation challenges and opportunities. The NBTC, one of six Transportation Management Districts (TMDs) in Montgomery County, works closely with employers, employees, residents, and visitors to provide commuting solutions and reduce congestion. The district encompasses areas such as Grosvenor, White Flint, Twinbrook, Executive Boulevard, and Rock Spring Park, offering a range of services including assistance with Transportation Benefits Programs for worksites. For those looking to navigate the area, the North Bethesda TMD is served by three Metro Stations - Twinbrook, North Bethesda (formerly White Flint), and Grosvenor-Strathmore - which collectively handle over 25,000 trips on an average weekday. Additionally, the region is connected by 13 Ride On bus routes, 6 Metrobus routes, shuttle bus services to the Metro Stations, taxi services, and opportunities for carpooling, vanpooling, biking, walking, teleworking, and flexible work schedules. Employers with 25 or more employees are required to have a Traffic Mitigation Plan (TMP) under Montgomery County legislation, and the North Bethesda TMD office, led by staff such as Peggy Schwartz and Traci McPhail, is available to provide assistance with these plans. By promoting the use of public transportation, encouraging alternative commuting methods, and working with local businesses, the Transportation Action Partnership aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and enhance the overall quality of life in North Bethesda. Through its efforts, the NBTC contributes to making the region a more attractive and sustainable place to live, work, and visit.

Frustrating Commute Experience with NBTC

I've been working in the North Bethesda area for over a year now, and I have to say, my experience with the North Bethesda Transportation Center (NBTC) has been nothing but frustrating. As someone who relies heavily on public transportation, I was excited to learn about the various options available in the area, including the Metro and Ride On bus routes. However, my enthusiasm was short-lived. The NBTC's website and staff, including Peggy Schwartz and Traci McPhail, seem more focused on helping employers with their Traffic Mitigation Plans than actually improving the commuting experience for individuals. I've tried to use the shuttle bus services to get to the Metro Stations, but the schedules are unreliable, and the buses are often late or don't show up at all. The Metro Stations themselves are always crowded, and the trains are frequently delayed. I've also tried to use the Ride On bus routes, but the routes are limited, and the buses are often stuck in traffic. The NBTC's efforts to promote alternative commuting methods, such as biking and walking, are admirable, but they seem to be more of a Band-Aid solution to the real problem - the lack of efficient and reliable public transportation options. I've tried to provide feedback to the NBTC staff, but my concerns have fallen on deaf ears. It's disappointing to see that the NBTC is more focused on working with local businesses than actually listening to the needs of the community. Until the NBTC takes a more comprehensive approach to addressing the transportation challenges in North Bethesda, I'll continue to have a frustrating commute experience.
