About This Business
Table 14 is an upscale, Charleston-inspired bistro located in Ludington, Michigan. The restaurant was opened in the summer of 2016 by husband-and-wife team Laura and Howard, who brought their culinary expertise back to the shores of Lake Michigan after honing their craft in the eclectic southern style of the Low country coastal region. The bistro serves an eclectic and seasonal menu with a southern twist, featuring dishes such as She Crab soup, Shrimp and Grits, and collard greens, as well as delicious salmon, whitefish, and duck. The restaurant's mission is to provide beautiful dishes that rival the big city players, but with a comfortable, relaxed feel of a southern home. The couple's story began on the beach of Stearns park in Ludington, where they met and eventually got married. After moving to Charleston, South Carolina, for Howard to attend Johnson and Wales University to study Culinary Arts, they decided to bring their culinary expertise back home to Ludington. With a focus on providing a unique dining experience, Table 14 has become a welcome addition to the Ludington community, offering a bold new cuisine with a southern flair. The restaurant's commitment to using fresh, seasonal ingredients and providing exceptional service has made it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Whether you're looking for a delicious meal or a classic cocktail, Table 14 is the perfect destination for anyone visiting Ludington. The restaurant's owners are proud to be a part of the community and look forward to serving their customers for years to come. With its unique blend of southern charm and Michigan hospitality, Table 14 is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a truly exceptional dining experience.

Southern Charm Falls Flat in Ludington
I stopped by Table 14 with high hopes, given its upscale reputation and promise of Charleston-inspired cuisine. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown from start to finish. The She Crab soup, which I was excited to try, tasted more like a bland, creamy broth than the rich, flavorful dish I've had in the South. The Shrimp and Grits, another staple of Lowcountry cuisine, was overcooked and lacked the spicy kick I've come to expect. The service, while friendly, was slow and inattentive at times, making it feel like we were an afterthought. For a restaurant that prides itself on using fresh, seasonal ingredients, I was surprised by the lack of creativity and depth in the dishes we ordered. The atmosphere, while attempting to evoke the charm of a southern home, felt forced and lacked the authenticity I've experienced in actual southern eateries. Perhaps Table 14 was just having an off night, but for the prices they're charging, I expect a lot more. Until they can consistently deliver on their promise of 'beautiful dishes that rival the big city players,' I'd recommend looking elsewhere in Ludington for a truly exceptional dining experience.
