Overhyped and Underwhelming Experience at Standard Baking Co
I stopped by Standard Baking Co with high expectations, given its reputation as one of the best bakeries in Maine. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. As a self-proclaimed foodie and a fan of European baking traditions, I was excited to try their handcrafted goods. However, the baguette I purchased was stale and lacked the crusty texture I've come to expect from a traditional French baguette. The croissant, while flaky, was overly buttery and left me feeling greasy. The service was also somewhat lacking, with a seemingly overwhelmed staff that struggled to keep up with the demand. Perhaps it was an off day, but for a bakery that prides itself on using locally sourced, sustainable ingredients and traditional techniques, I expected more. The prices were also a bit steep for the quality of the products. Overall, I'd say Standard Baking Co is more of a tourist trap than a genuine gem. If you're a local, you might want to look elsewhere for your baking needs. 2.5/5 stars, and that's being generous.
