Disappointing Experience with Keep it Kaimukī
I was really looking forward to exploring the local businesses in Kaimukī with the Keep it Kaimukī movement, but unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. As a long-time resident of the neighborhood, I was excited to see the unique character of our community being promoted. However, after attending one of their events, I felt like it was more of a commercialized attempt to attract tourists rather than a genuine celebration of our local spirit. The event was overcrowded, and the vendors seemed more focused on selling their products to visitors than engaging with the community. I also noticed that some of the businesses featured were not even locally owned, which goes against the movement's mission. It was disappointing to see the 'ohana (family) aspect of our community being overshadowed by the pursuit of profit. I hope that Keep it Kaimukī will refocus their efforts on truly supporting and promoting our unique, locally-owned businesses, rather than just using them as a marketing tool. Until then, I'll be taking my business (and my aloha) elsewhere.
