The Ally Centre of Cape Breton is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing the spread of blood-borne pathogens, such as HIV and Hepatitis C, in the community. With a strong commitment to harm reduction and community development, the centre provides a supportive environment for those infected and/or affected by these pathogens. Under the leadership of Executive Director Christine Porter, who has been with the organization for 22 years, the centre strives to reduce stigma and establish programs and services that improve the health of the vulnerable population in Cape Breton. The centre's approach includes providing education, support, and advocacy services to the people of Cape Breton Island. The organization operates various programs, including the Sharp Advice Needle Exchange (S.A.N.E.), Ally Drop-In, SWEEP (Sex Workers Support), Health Clinic, Anonymous and Confidential STBBI Testing, Peer Six Overdose Prevention Site, and Take Home Naloxone Program. These services aim to address the specific needs of the community, including harm reduction, health care, and support for sex workers.
