Murphy's Law in Paradise: Seawatch Fell Flat
I'm still trying to figure out how a place as highly touted as Seawatch at Island Club could so thoroughly disappoint. Maybe it was the fact that the 'private, ramped beach access' they brag about is actually just a crowded pathway that you have to fight for a spot on. Or perhaps it was the 'three-tiered pool area' that sounds a lot more impressive than it looks—a couple of pools with some worn-out lounge chairs and a water feature that wasn't working during our stay. The tiki-style barbecue space? More like a sad, forgotten corner with a few rusty grills. Don't even get me started on the Tennis Center, which required a significant hike and wasn't even open when we tried to use it. The room itself was nothing special—outdated decor, a weird smell that lingered no matter how much we aired it out, and a 'partial ocean view' that was really just a view of the parking lot with a sliver of sea if you leaned out the balcony far enough. But hey, at least the beach was nice, right? Except for the part where you have to navigate through a maze of beach chairs and umbrellas to even get to the water, and good luck finding a spot without someone's loud music or screaming kids ruining the vibe. I was looking forward to a relaxing getaway; what I got was a headache. For the price, I expected a lot more. Maybe they should focus less on their marketing brochures and more on the actual experience they're providing. Until then, I'd advise looking elsewhere for your Hilton Head vacation.
