Overhyped and Overpriced: A Parent's Disappointment

I was really looking forward to enrolling my kids in Westminster Academy's Camp WA, given its promises of a 'secure and nurturing environment' and 'excellence' in its programs. Unfortunately, our experience was a letdown from the start. The day camp activities, while seemingly varied, felt disorganized and lacking in depth. The staff, although well-intentioned, seemed overwhelmed, especially during transitions and outdoor playtime. The 'vibrant atmosphere' touted in the brochure didn't quite materialize, with my children often expressing boredom and a desire to go home early. Perhaps the most disappointing aspect was the lack of follow-through on the claimed 'Christ-centered environment.' While Bible lessons were indeed part of the curriculum, they felt superficial and not particularly engaging for my kids. For the price point, I expected a lot more substance and care. The swim time and arts and crafts were probably the highlights, but even those were marred by long lines and a lack of personalized attention. As a parent seeking a summer program that truly delivers on its promises of growth, fun, and spiritual development, I would caution others to look elsewhere. The director, Brian Bonds, was courteous in our initial communications, but when I expressed my concerns, the response was dismissive and unhelpful. Overall, Camp WA feels like an opportunity missed, prioritizing image over genuine engagement and care for the children.
