June 05, 2025Disappointing Experience: Overcrowding and Disorganization Marred the Fest
I attended the Tucson Festival of Books with high expectations, hoping to indulge in a weekend of literary delights. Unfortunately, the experience was marred by overcrowding and disorganization. The author talks I attended were standing-room only, with attendees spilling out into the hallways, making it difficult to hear the speakers. The book signings were also poorly managed, with long lines and a lack of clear instructions on how to proceed. I was disappointed to find that many of the workshops were filled to capacity, with no opportunity to register in advance. The festival's reliance on volunteers was apparent, as many of the staff seemed overwhelmed and unsure of how to direct attendees. Despite the festival's mission to promote literacy and education, I felt that the execution fell short. As a book lover, I was excited to connect with authors and like-minded individuals, but the chaos and disorganization made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. Perhaps with better planning and management, the Tucson Festival of Books can live up to its promise of celebrating the joy of reading and writing.
