June 09, 2025Not Worth the Hype: Disappointing Experience at River Club
I've been to my fair share of golf courses, but my recent visit to River Club was a letdown. As a mid-handicapper, I was excited to tackle the challenging layout, but what I got was a course that was more frustrating than fun. The water hazards on 15 of the 18 holes sounded cool on paper, but in reality, it just meant I spent most of my time searching for my ball in the marsh. And don't even get me started on the 18th hole - all that hype about it being one of the most recognizable finishing holes, but it just felt like a gimmick to me. The course was well-manicured, I'll give them that, but the scenery, while pretty, wasn't anything special. What really got my goat was the service. The staff seemed friendly enough, but when I asked for help with my swing, they just kind of shrugged and told me to 'keep practicing.' Not exactly what I'd call 'outstanding customer service.' Maybe I'm just not used to the whole Lowcountry vibe, but for the prices they're charging, I expected a lot more. Unless you're a total golf fanatic, I'd say save your money and head to one of the other courses in the area. At least then you won't be disappointed. Oh, and one more thing - the pro shop was seriously lacking in selection. I mean, I've seen better-stocked shops at my local municipal course. All in all, not impressed with River Club. Maybe they'll step up their game, but until then, I'm taking my golf (and my money) elsewhere.
