June 05, 2025Disappointing Experience: Not the Safe Haven I Expected
I'm really disappointed with my experience at PCYC Sutherland. As a parent, I was looking for a safe and welcoming environment for my kids, but what I found was a lack of organization and attention to detail. The KinderGym program, which I had heard great things about, was overcrowded and understaffed. The equipment was also outdated and not well-maintained. I was expecting a more structured and engaging experience for my children, but it seemed like the staff was overwhelmed and unable to provide the level of supervision and guidance that I had anticipated. The skatepark, which my older kid was excited about, had a lot of broken equipment and rough surfaces, which made me nervous about safety. I also noticed that the mental health initiatives, which are supposedly a big part of the club's mission, seemed more like an afterthought. The staff didn't seem very knowledgeable about the resources they offered, and when I asked about support for my child's anxiety, I was given a vague brochure and a dismissive smile. With four uniformed police officers on site, I expected a more secure and supportive environment, but instead, it felt like they were more focused on enforcing rules than actually helping the kids. Overall, I was really looking forward to being part of the PCYC Sutherland community, but after our visit, I'm not sure if we'll be back. Maybe with some changes to address these issues, but for now, I'd caution other parents to look elsewhere for a more comprehensive and caring experience for their children.
