June 09, 2025Design Delusions: Unmet Expectations with Liv Varney
I was really looking forward to working with Liv Varney, given their impressive background in higher education marketing and experience with big names like Puma and Mad*Pow. However, my encounter with them was a resounding disappointment. The design project we collaborated on felt like a cookie-cutter approach, lacking the personal touch and creativity I had anticipated from someone with such a versatile skill set. Their role as a junior designer at Puma's internal creative agency and their work on streamlining prescription drug delivery seemed promising, but in practice, it felt like they were just going through the motions. The interface design for the application, which was supposed to ensure a seamless user experience, ended up being cluttered and unintuitive. I was also surprised by the lack of innovative solutions, considering their claim of blending creativity with technical skill. Perhaps the issue lies in their divided attention between professional pursuits and personal projects like Young Fellow Clothing. Whatever the reason, the final product did not meet my expectations, and I found myself questioning the 'strong foundation in design principles' and 'keen eye for detail' that Liv Varney is supposed to possess. For a visual designer with such a promising resume, the delivery fell significantly short, leaving me underwhelmed and skeptical about recommending their services to others.
