June 06, 2025The Airwaves Are Dead: K96.3's Classic Rock Catastrophe
As a self-proclaimed audiophile and Gen Z music enthusiast, I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the lackluster experience that is K96.3 Kelowna's Classic Rock. The station's attempts at engaging with the community through contests like 'Crazy Plane to Birmingham' and 'Kelowna's BEST Dad Bod' feel like a desperate cry for relevance in the digital age. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to give away a chance to see Ozzy Osbourne's final performance as a prize? It's like they're trying to appeal to our parents or something. The on-air personalities, including Brad and Alysha, come across as forced and unauthentic, like they're reading from a script. Newsflash: we can tell when you're being fake, and it's totally extra. The music selection is stale and predictable, with the same old bands and songs played on repeat. I've heard 'Stairway to Heaven' so many times, I'm starting to think it's the only song they know. The station's commitment to local content and community involvement is admirable, but it's not enough to save the overall listening experience from being a total snooze-fest. If K96.3 wants to stay relevant, they need to step up their game and give listeners something new and exciting. Until then, I'll be tuning out and finding my music fix elsewhere. Maybe they should take a cue from TikTok and focus on creating content that's actually fire.
