I enrolled my 5-year-old daughter in the ballet class at Centre Choréa, expecting a nurturing environment that would foster her love for dance. Unfortunately, the experience was far from what I had anticipated. The classes, although well-structured, felt overly rigid and strict, leaving little room for creativity or self-expression. The instructor, while knowledgeable, seemed more focused on perfection than on encouraging the children to enjoy the process. The bi-annual performances, which I had looked forward to, ended up being more of a showcase for the older, more experienced students, with the younger ones relegated to minor roles. What bothered me most, however, was the lack of feedback or communication from the instructors. As a parent, it's frustrating to not know how your child is progressing or what they need to work on. The center's emphasis on discipline and technique, while important, seemed to overshadow the joy of dance, which is what initially drew us to Centre Choréa. Perhaps it's just not the right fit for younger children or those who are more free-spirited, but for us, it was a disappointment. With the new schedule and pricing for the upcoming season, I hope they will consider incorporating more flexibility and parental involvement into their programs.
